Oh, friends, I'm a piffling embarrassed because I but checked and my last bath update was 5 weeks ago. Oops! I've been slowly working on our bath over the past month and have some exciting updates to share today including our updated vanity and painted countertop!

Merely to recap, I originally began this room makeover as part of the One Room Challenge this fall. However, it was quickly apparent that I didn't have enough time to devote to the project and after getting halfway through the challenge, I waved my white flag and admitted that in that location was no way I was going to become anywhere close to finished in fourth dimension.

I am an overachiever that hates letting anyone down, including myself, then albeit my overwhelm and putting the brakes on this makeover was definitely non like shooting fish in a barrel for me. Failing to meet this goal of finishing our room makeover by the borderline stressed me out, merely I've had to remind myself that it was an capricious borderline and adapt my expectations.

And so of grade one time I admitted my defeat, I basically ignored the room for weeks before finally feeling re-energized to focus on it once more these past couple weekends. Which leads united states to today's progress update because I really have some heady progress to testify y'all!

If you want to grab up from the showtime, hither are the past updates:

Equally a reminder, here's a before photo of the bath. It's your standard half bath simply off of our kitchen. It'southward functional merely leaves a lot to be desired in the design department.

Painted Countertop

Concluding time you lot tuned in, y'all saw how the bathroom looked with the walls painted and the lath and batten wall handling installed. I'm however swooning over that wall color (Rainforest past Behr)!

I installed the boardand batten post-obit the same process I did in our entryway. You can run across the full DIY lath and batten tutorial here.

The below photo is from my concluding blog post update where you'll notice the vanity is still the original honey oak. I'm proud to say it looks quite a fleck different now!

So here'due south a look at our "new" painted bathroom vanity!

Side Notation: Information technology'southward super hard to photo this tiny lilliputian room! Too, I didn't clean the floor for you so don't listen the mess ;).

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably caught some of my ongoing fence about the color for the vanity. I originally planned to paint the wood white and exit the countertop alone, but after a couple of coats of bright white paint, I absolutely hated it.

The beige countertop looked fifty-fifty worse against the brilliant white cabinet, which sent me dorsum to the cartoon lath trying to come up up with a different paint color for the vanity. Merely guess what? Choosing a pigment color to complement the bold light-green walls isn't the easiest task.

I debated a lot of greige, mushroom type of colors that are all the rage right now, but I ultimately wasn't convinced any of them would end upwards looking bully against the beige countertop.

So I eventually gave in to the wild thought of painting the countertops a bright white which is what I wanted to practice in the commencement place but talked myself out of because it would add more toll and fourth dimension to the room makeover. Just I ordered a Rustoleum Tub and Tile Refinishing Kit online and Home Depot had it waiting for me to choice up at the front of the store by the time I drove across town.

I've already gotten a lot of questions virtually painting my counters and I'll just say I have mixed feelings. I'm not the most patient person or a very dandy painter, and this requires you to paint ho-hum, thin coats to go a smooth cease. I ended upwards applying more coats than I needed because I would rush and cease up having to sand off little drips later, resulting in even more than painting.

I recollect this project would be better done with a pigment sprayer than trying to pigment evenly with a brush (I used a small roller castor, only had to use a bristle castor for and then many edges and down inside the sink bowl). This product is an epoxy that will stink upward your whole business firm for days simply I did love that it levels itself as information technology dries and the dried finish is very shine as long as yous were conscientious not to leave whatsoever uneven brush marks.

On the plus side, the epoxy does seem very durable and I've read tons of reviews that say it's held upwardly to h2o well. Overall, I'm actually happy with my "new" white countertops even if at that place are a few imperfections in the paint!

I don't plan to blog about painting the countertop, but if you're interested in trying it in your dwelling house I highly advise reading how Bless'er Business firm painted her bathroom counters and bathtub. She also shared a painted counter update eight months afterward.

Painted Vanity

Later the counter was a bright white, I decided the wood vanity needed a subtle color and then I ended upwardly adding a few drops of this gray paint to the container of glossy white paint I originally planned to utilize. The result is a cute calorie-free grayness that complements the white counter and is a nice contrast to the dark light-green walls.

DecoArt sent me their Satin Enamels paint to use for the vanity and loved it. It lightly sanded and degreased the cabinet first and then rolled on a few coats of the DecoArt paint. This pigment hardens when information technology dries for a durable satin stop and I had a lot of people recommend it to me for cabinets. I really love that it doesn't need any kind of top coat or sealer.

I added this gorgeous matte black hardware that Liberty Hardware provided for our bath project. Aren't they then pretty? I chose this black pull and this blackness knob.

Calculation nice hardware to a builder grade chiffonier is a really easy way to instantly better it. And the only tool you need is a drill so it's a great beginner project if you lot want to dip your toe into home improvement!

Organized Vanity

No room makeover of mine is consummate without adding some organization! This cabinet was previously flood with random cleaning supplies we'd shoved in there after moving into this firm final fall. Later on focusing on using thing up and condensing half-used bottles into 1 full one, I was able to purge a ton!

Once everything was out of the cabinet, I added adhesive contact paper (tin can you believe it'south only $1 for a roll?) to the bottom to give it some protection from spills and grime. Non simply is the cabinet a bit more protected, but it besides looks fashion prettier at present!

I partnered with iDesign to organize everything using their acrylic bins. Now half of the vanity holds household cleaning supplies and the other half holds actress toilet paper, a box of tissues, and a small trash can (with a dog and a toddler, it's all-time to hide the trash!). I'grand slowly converting all of our cleaning supplies over to greener alternatives so I promise this cabinet will be even emptier in the hereafter as I used upward some of these bottles.

The acrylic bins are clear and so you can easily see what's within and they stack and so you lot can shop even more in your infinite. I used my new Cricut Maker to make labels out of agglutinative vinyl during naptime last Saturday.

Nosotros Have Lights and a Mirror!

I'm in dear with the antiquarian bronze light fixture Lamps Expo sent us for this room. The colors just become and so well with the nighttime green walls!

The mirror I originally bought for our bathroom ended upward existence too tall for the space, but I loved it then much I didn't desire to return information technology! I ended up playing musical mirrors and I stole the round brass mirror from our entry to utilise in the bath and moved my new mirror to the entryway (run into how it looks in last calendar week'south entryway tour).

Bathroom Makeover Tasks

And here'due south my task list for this project! I'm getting toward the stop! I'm almost done with the window and door trim, simply a couple boards left to paint and install. So it's basically cleaning everything up and adding some simple decor to the walls!

I ultimately want to pigment or stain the door and would love to endeavor stenciling the floors, but those projects are like shooting fish in a barrel to exercise subsequently on and then my goal right now is to finish what I've started and consider those last two tasks equally a possible phase two.

  • Install board and batten treatment
  • Paint walls
  • Add window trim
  • Replace door trim
  • Replace baseboards
  • Paint vanity
  • Pigment counter
  • Replace mirror
  • Replace lite
  • Organize vanity
  • Add wall decor
  • Pigment floors (on hold)
  • Paint/stain door (on concur)
